The CHPSAAA (Center for a Histoy of Philosophy and Science as seen from Asia, Africa, And so on ) is an offshoot of the Centre for a History of Sciences seen from Asia (CHPSA). All the members of this center share the conviction that by working with sources from the four corners of the globe, we can raise research questions and invent methodological approaches capable of renewing the history of philosophy and science in general.
The center is home to regular researchers, associate members, doctoral and post-doctoral students and foreign correspondents. All share the desire to contribute not only to the histories of philosophy and science as they have been written in China, Mauritania or Mexico, but also to a global history of these disciplines. They posit that working on their sources brings out specific issues that can be redeployed more generally. The objective of the center is to contribute to a renewal of Sinology, Indology, Assyriology, and more broadly to the history of ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary societies on a global scale through the study of philosophy and science. They believe that their studies provide new questions and methods relevant to the history of science and philosophy in general. This theoretical approach is also relevant to the work of exact sciences in contemporary societies. The members of this center work in a resolutely cross-disciplinary way. As such, they are also involved in other themes or axis of the Sphere research unit, such as "History of Sciences, History of Text", "Cultures", etc.
The center is characterized by its horizontal and egalitarian organization: all members are co-responsible, decisions are taken by consensus, and each member is free to pursue the activities he or she wishes.
