Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease. Although as many as 600,000 people in France suffer from it, it seems to be largely misunderstood and even forgotten by society.

Raconter l’épilepsie: a medical humanities podcast examines the links between epilepsy and narrative, and presents the main narratives surrounding the disease.

Taking the form of an interdisciplinary scientific popularization of epilepsy, this podcast is based on the medical humanities work of Claire Jeantils.

The researcher brings together different perspectives on the disease: testimonials from those affected (sufferers, carers, doctors, etc.), cultural representations of epilepsy and research into the chronic illness.

Raconter l'épilepsie (Telling the Story of Epilepsy) is aimed at people with and without epilepsy, professionals, students and researchers in the fields of health and medical humanities.

Ciné-Club Barberousse programme

The film club takes place one Saturday a month at 10:30 AM at the Nouvel Odéon cinema, 6 rue de l’École de médecine, Paris 6th since 2017. The film club is hosted by C. Lefève, a philosophy professor and co-director of the "The Person in Medicine" Institute (University of Paris Cité), F. Crémieux, general director of the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Marseille, and J.-M. Frodon, film critic and associate professor at Sciences-Po. It utilizes the resources of cinema to make sensitive and question the psychic, ethical, social, and political issues of care in a broad sense. It screens films that, like A. Kurosawa did in Barberousse, highlight our vulnerabilities and remind us that we are all caregivers and recipients of care. The films, chosen for their ability to evoke emotions and questions on their own, are part of a shared exploration and research. During the discussions following the screenings, practitioners of care (medical or otherwise), cinema specialists and professionals, philosophers, and researchers in human and social sciences, along with audience members from all walks of life, come together.
